Erica graduated from Auckland University with a degree in architecture in 2012, which included doing her thesis on the architecture of the Christchurch rebuild. As a result she wanted to come to Christchurch and get involved.
Erica has volunteered for Gap Filler, has done brand design for TEDx Christchurch (2013) and has worked as an assistant for Studio Christchurch - who created a giant model of the Green Frame in early 2013. As a result she has had part time work with the Arts Festival, part time work at Fabriko’s MakerCrate, a complete community maker space inside a 20 foot shipping container and became Manager of Events and Communication with Ministry of Awesome in February 2014. How awesome is that!! Find out more about Ministry of Awesome |
Guy was made redundant from Tait in June 2013, after over 15 years, where he worked as a Solutions Architect, an engineering role focusing on the bigger picture (5 years out – commercial). Since then, Guy has volunteered with MakerCrate, Wiki House and ReKindle. Having this experience as a volunteer, Guy felt he had the confidence to make a career change. Guy is now the Workshop Manager at ReKindle, a social enterprise that enables diversion of reusable resources from waste via creativity and craftsmanship. Guy has even exhibited his own artworks!
He feels that by “becoming connected through these innovative organisations, there are major long term benefits in developing the whole of the Canterbury industry, and not just your own small island of excellence.” Find out more about ReKindle |
Liv has a Fine Art’s background and
founded Plant Gang (Christchurch) in June 2013. She came up with the idea after
attending a Community Garden Association meeting where one of the attendees
said “We need to make gardening cool again”, and after a couple of beers with a
friend Plant Gang was born. Plant Gang initiates
and completes environmental artworks and gestures around post-quake
Christchurch, using volunteers whenever possible.
Liv has also been documenting the plants that have naturally populated demolition sites. The types of people involved are not only the young groups, but older people are the ones who get involved without being aware. “Plant Gang is so much bigger then the projects, there’s collaboration and connection.” The best thing about the project? “Conversations and knowing I’m doing something!!” Volunteers earn patches! ‘Like’ Plant Gang and find out whats happening next! |
